How to complain about a moving company

Movers who hold a load hostage or double the quote at the truck are a federal matter when the move crosses a state line.

What goes wrong most often

  • Price doubled after the truck was loaded
  • Delivery weeks past the agreed window
  • Broken or missing items with a claim that went unanswered
  • Deposit kept after a cancelled move

The evidence that decides it

  • The binding estimate and the bill of lading
  • Photos of items before the move and on arrival
  • The inventory sheet with any pre-existing damage codes
  • The claim you submitted and their reply (or silence)

Quote the estimate, the final demand, and the delivery date promised.

The regulator most people never use

FMCSA (interstate) or the state utilities commission (in-state)

Interstate movers are federally registered and complaints go to the FMCSA's National Consumer Complaint Database, which is public.

Your state's channel is listed in the state complaint guides.

Where to post it

Wording that survives moderation

Start from a review template, keep every claim tied to a document, and read the wording rules before you post. If it comes down anyway, there is an appeal path.
